The Henderson County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) works with federal, state and local offices to provide educational, technical and financial assistance to conserve soil, improve water quality and enhance the natural resources of Henderson County. SWCD is governed by a Board of Supervisors; three members are elected by citizens of Henderson County and two are appointed by the elected members.

Essential Departmental Functions include assisting local farmers with soil and water conservation via conservation plan design and best management practices to keep soil in the fields and out of waterways, helping with conserving and restoring wetlands to purify water and provide habitat for wildlife, planting trees and grass to hold soil in place, and assisting developers and homeowners to manage the land in an environmentally-friendly way.
